Campus France and Études en France: the mandatory step Indian students cannot skip

You cannot apply to most French institutions, or get a French student visa, without going through Campus France and its Études en France (EEF) platform. It is France's equivalent gatekeeper to Germany's APS plus uni-assist combined. Plan it early so it does not wreck your intake.

The one-line version: create an Études en France account, build your file, apply to your chosen programs through it, pay the ~₹18,500 Campus France fee, attend the academic interview, and once admitted your visa application flows from the same platform. Budget two to three months from account to interview.

What Campus France actually is

Campus France is the official French government agency that manages international students. For Indians, its Études en France online procedure is mandatory: it is how you apply, get your documents verified, sit the interview, and connect to the visa process. Applying directly to a university outside EEF usually will not get you a visa.

The step-by-step timeline

1

Create your EEF account

Early, ideally months before deadlines. Fill your academic history carefully; errors slow everything down.

2

Build your file and shortlist programs

Upload transcripts, degree, language proof (English and/or French), CV, SOP/motivation letter and recommendations. Choose your programs within the platform.

3

Pay the Campus France fee

About ₹18,500 (since Oct 2024), paid after your Campus France manager validates the application. It covers review, the interview and document verification.

4

Attend the academic interview

A Campus France counsellor assesses your study plan, motivation and finances. Be clear on why this program, why France, and how you will fund it, see interview tips below.

5

Admission, then visa

Once a university admits you, your VLS-TS visa application proceeds from the same EEF file.

The interview: what they want to hear

Be ready to explain
  • Why this specific program and university (know the modules).
  • Why France for your field and future.
  • How you will pay: one year of tuition plus about €615/month in funds is expected, see costs.
  • Your plan after graduation (honest, realistic).
Do not wing it. A weak, generic interview can sink an otherwise strong application. Treat it like a visa-and-fit interview combined. A mock run with someone who passed it is worth a lot.
